SDS STUDY ABROAD PROGRAM
Currently, the CES program has been discontinued since June 2018 and has been replaced by the SDS program. So how are these two programs different? Let's go with H&A to find out ✌
What is CES and SDS??
CES and SDS are generally programs that support faster student visa processing for international students when applying to study in Canada.
Specific:
♆ CES (Canada Express Study):
Is a faster student visa application program for students studying at the Association of Colleges and Institutes in Canada (CICan). The biggest advantage of this program is faster visa processing and no need to submit financial documents. To get a Canadian student visa quickly under this priority policy, students must meet the following requirements:
- Must be admitted to one of the Colleges of the Association of Colleges and Institutes in Canada (CICan) schools, with proof of having paid tuition for 1 year at that school.
- IELTS 5.0 or higher, no subject less than 4.5
- Must purchase a Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) worth CAD 10,000 from Scotia Bank in Canada to cover living expenses for the first year of study.
- Visa application must be submitted at least 60 days before the date of admission.
- Student health check before submitting visa application 1 week.
☘SDS (Study Direct Stream):
Is a form of streamlining visa procedures for students in four countries: Vietnam, India, China, and the Philippines to study at universities and colleges in Canada, reducing financial documents. The program will initially be tested in 4 countries and then widely applied throughout Asia. The program also aims to tighten the selection of students to prolong the program of visa applications without financial proof. SDS is supported by Scotiabank, helping students to obtain a Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) to meet their financial reporting needs when studying abroad under the above category. Conditions to apply the SDS program are as follows:
- Students are admitted to a full-time study program of a public post-secondary institution such as a university, college, or CÉGEP institute.
- Minimum IELTS score of 6.0 (No skill less than 6.0) valid within 2 years
- Purchase a Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) from a nominated bank worth $10,000 CAD
Proof of payment for 1 year of tuition
- Health check before submitting application at least 1 week
Comparison between CES and SDS
Basically, SDS is not too different from the CES program that was in effect in Vietnam two years ago. However, SDS still has its own requirements, raising the question whether this program will be applied in Vietnam in the near future and what will be the future of CES?
